Our institution belives that, it is highly essential to inculcate social awareness, nationalism, and the spirit of sportsmanship among all the students while best standards in fulfillment of their academic pursuits. This is the annual report of all the activities conducted in the college for the academic year 2008-09.

The student’s association was constituted for the year 2008-09 under the chairmanship of our Principal, Professor. Chandramma, and co-odinated by our lecturers Prof.Bhavani, Smt. Rani Sandhu and Smt. Mamatha.

Elections were conducted for the year 2008-09 to elect the office bearers to the student’s Cultural, Literary and Sports association. Class and sports representatives were elected for respective classes on the same day.

On 1st august, a TQM orientation programme was conducted for first year B.COM students. Talents exhibition was conducted on 12th, 13th and 14th of august 2008. The student’s cultural literary and sports association was inaugurated on 28th august 2008. Sri.Aravind Limbavali, Hon. Minister of higher Education, Govt., of Karnataka was the chief guest, Dr. C.N. Ashwatha Narayan, MLA, Malleshwaram Constituency was the special guest and Smt. Mangala Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary of MLA was the president of the function. A workshop on team building was conducted for III year b.com students on 24th October 2008. Inter class competitions were conducted on 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th of October 2009. A three day excursion was organized by the college for final year students in the month of December 2008 to Udupi.

A two day UGC sponsored State Level Seminar on “Empowerment of Women – Challenges ahead” was organized on 13th and 14th of February 2009. Dr. Gokilvani Srinivasan inaugurated the seminar. The Valedictory address, benefiting the programme was presented by Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, Honourable Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Govt., of Karnataka. Smt Mangala Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary, MLA presided over the function.

The inter class cultural fest “UTSAV 2009” was inaugurated by Prof. Chandramma, Principal, MLAFGCW on 24th February 2009. ‘SOWRABHA’, the inter-collegiate fest was organized on 28th March 2009 which was inaugurated by Smt. Mangala Ramachandra, Hon. Secretary, MLA in which nearly 25 colleges participated and the Valedictory function was held on the same day and the students of Vivekananda College won the Rolling shield.

The various forums and the clubs of our college organized many activities to bring out the creativity and the talents in our students. The commerce forum conducted many activities and competitions like Product Launch, Collage, Commerce model etc., and the commerce exhibition was held on 4th April 2009.On the other hand the Sanskrit and Hindi forum also conducted many inter-class competitions like essay writing, debate etc., from 16th March 2009 to 27th March 2009. Ethnic day was celebrated on 15th April 2009 and Kum. Ashwini was crowned as Miss MLA for the year. Our students won many prizes by participating in various inter- collegiate competitions including the RASA FEST conducted by ISKON.

Students of our college participated in BANGALORE UNIVERSITY YOUTH COMPETITIONS. They also participated in other colleges fests, State level competition in the month of February 2009in Sri Ramayan Darshanam, Kavya Vachana Spardhe conducted by Kanakpura Rural College and won a rolling shield for the college.

During the year various certification programmes in TALL, English Speaking and Communication Skills and Personality Development, were conducted for III, II & I B.Com students., respectively. The Valedictory function was held on 13th May 2009 marking the closure of all the activities of the year 2008-09. Dr. Narpat Solanki was the chief guest on the occasion and Smt. Mangala Ramachandra was the president of the function.

“Deepadharnothsava”, an occasion which includes handling over the lamp of knowledge, culture and glory of the college by the senior students to the junior students and release of the magazines “KRUTHI” was held on 16th MAY 2009. The chief guest for the function was Prof. Chandreshekar and Smt. Mangala Ramachandra was the president of the function. We belive that, the activities of the various forums and committees have helped in the over all development of the student’s talents and skill sets to meet the challenges of life. The successful conduct of the activities would not have been possible without the able support and guidance of our principal, Prof. Chandramma, our in charge lecturers Prof. Bhavani.H , Rani Sandhu and Kum. Mamatha M and all the teaching and non teaching staff.

 
   
     
  NSS Report  
 

It is with great pleasure and satisfaction we present a brief report of the NSS activities that we have conducted in 2008-2009.

The college NSS advisory committee was framed under the president ship of our principal Prof. Chandramma. The other advisors of the committee are Smt. Mangala Ramachhandra, Hon. Secretary, Malleshwaram Ladies Association, Prof. Mahadevi R, Prof CK Sivakami, Prof, Bhavani (former NSS program officers) and Dr. Usha Devi N. (present NSS program officer).

Lecture on six healing sounds by Miss. Bhargavi, VR Faculty, Dept of Commerce and Management, Sheshadripuram College was arranged on 30.8.2009. On 6.9.2008 and 14.9.2008 students participated as volunteers in blood donation camp and special pooja programme organised by Sai Mandir, Malleshwaram.

NSS activities were inaugurated on 19.09.2008, NSS students actively participated in doing book binding work on 22nd, 23rd and 24th December 2008. Those books were distributed to the school children of Kumaraswamy Layout. On 28.12.2008, NSS students visited people for animal house, Kengri.

From 1st Jan to 4th Jan 2009, NSS volunteers participated in preparing charts. These charts were distributed to four schools which are based in Kumaraswamy Layout. The NSS special camp was inaugurated on 05.01.2009 by the chief guest Sri. Krishannappa, MLA, Bangalore South. On 6th Jan and 7th Jan, 2009, processions and street play “Effects of alcohol and smoking” and “Child Labour and female education” were arranged respectively.

A trip to Suvarna Mikhi was arranged on 8th Jan2009, Volunteers visited Government primary School, Public School and Urdu School in Kumaraswamy Layout every day afternoon from 6th January 2009 to teach English, mathematics and Basic Computers to the School children. On 10th January 2009 volunteers visited Anganawadi School to teach rhymes an also distributed sweets to the children. On 11.1.2009, valedictory function of NSS special camp was held.

From 2nd Feb to 5th Feb 2009 various competitions like essay writing, college etc; was conducted and prizes were distributed. Anti terrorism programme was organised by the Government of Karnataka on 28.2.2009. A talk on Anti Terrorism by Lt. Col. Shri Harsha was arranged on 9.3.2009.

NSS valedictory function was held on 28.3.2009. The chief Guest was Dr. Kuntoji, NSS program officers, HKES College, Bangalore. It was presided over by Prof. Chandramma. On 30th March 2009, students participated as volunteers in blood donation camp organised by Sai Mandir Malleshwaram.

With the blessings of the almighty and eminent guidance, inspiration, support and encouragement of our principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, we could conduct the NSS activities during the academic year successfully.

 
   
     
  Sports Report  
  Physical education is the integral part of general education and the unified force that emerges out of the judicious blend of the celebrated twin department of knowledge, which is capable of producing desirable results among the students. The education should not merely be a vast sea of mental acrobatics. The present day thinkers in education emphatically stress that the bet individual is one who is physically fit, mentally sound and sharp, emotionally balanced and socially well adjusted

The election of the sports committee was held on 8th August 2008. Kum.Veena.K of IIIB was elected as the sports secretary and the sports representatives of the respective classes were elected on the same day.

The Annual Athletic meet was held on 17th October 2008 at Bangalore University Cricket Pavilion Ground. Various events like 100mts, 4*100mts relay shot put etc., were arranged where students and the staff participated in the competitions with full zeal and enthusiasm.

In September the college athletes participated in the Bangalore university inter-collegiate athletic meet at Kanteerava stadium

The college organized Bangalore University Inter Collegiate competition in the month of September 2008. The college Netball team participated in the X Senior state league netball championship in the month of August 2008 and won II place. The college also organized 8th youth girls state level net ball championship at Malleshwaram grounds. Eight teams from various states participated in the tournament.

Our students also represented Karnataka state in the Senior National Net Ball championship held in the month of October and they also represented Bangalore University in Net Ball in March 2009 in the All India inter-university Net ball Championship at Patiala. It brings us great pleasure to say that our students also represented Karnataka state in the 16th Junior National Korf Ball Championship in Ahmedabad in October 2008.

Our final year students of A section bagged the class championship rolling shield for the year 2008-09.

We thank the members of the Management, our principal Prof. Chandramma, our Physical Education Director, Smt. Rani Sandhu, lecturers, staff and student co-ordinator  who have been energetic and supportive in conducting all the sports activities for the year successfully.
 
   
     
  Cultural & Literary Report  
 

The English Club was started in the year 2004. The club focuses on enhancing communication skills and spoken English.

The club organised various activities like Role Play, Pick and Speak, Mock Interview etc.

The activities help the students to overcome stage fear, inhibitions and build confidence in them to speak in English.

English movies Sound of Music, My Fail Lady and Shakespeare’s Play, Julius Caesar etc; was screened for the students.

Students made power point presentations on topics like Mobile Phones, Pollutions, Elements of advertising etc.

The club organised various inter-class competitions also. The first year students were trained to use the module on spoken English in the Language lab.

Thus the forum aims at moulding the students in the best possible way.
